About D-9-5 Visa

 

1. What is a D-9-5 visa (student trade management visa)?

 

The D-9-5 visa (international student trade management visa) is a visa that allows foreigners to freely participate in business as individual business owners who do not need to register a corporation. Recently, there has been an increase in the number of international students who have graduated from universities in Korea and are starting businesses such as shopping malls and trade businesses and are issued this visa. This visa can be applied for by international students who have obtained a master's degree or higher from a domestic university and wish to invest more than 100 million won to manage a company or conduct a for-profit business in Korea.

 

2. I have obtained a master's degree or higher in Korea. Can you tell me about the procedure for obtaining a D-9-5 visa?

 

Foreigners (D-2, D-10 visa holders) who have obtained (or are expected to obtain) a master's degree or higher from a domestic university may register a business if they have raised at least KRW 50 million out of KRW 100 million or more in investment funds domestically. The remaining funds must be foreign capital in accordance with the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act and the Foreign Exchange Management Regulations. After completing business registration in accordance with the Value Added Tax Act, a business operator may establish a corporation in Korea and engage in for-profit business.

 

3. I received my bachelor's degree in Korea. Can you tell me about the procedure for obtaining a D-9-5 visa?

 

This is possible if a foreigner who has obtained (or is expected to obtain) a bachelor's degree from a domestic university and has earned a total of 40 or more credits in the 'Comprehensive Startup Immigration Support System (OASIS-1 to 8)'.

 

4. What documents are required?

 

The documents required to be submitted when applying for a D-9-5 visa are as follows:
Integrated application form, passport, fee
Copy of business registration certificate, business license (if applicable), foreign investment company registration certificate (if applicable)

In case of joint venture
Original and copy of joint venture agreement (if applicable), annual income proof document of joint venture partner (if applicable)
Documents related to introduction of business funds:
Remittance confirmation, foreign exchange purchase certificate, customs declaration, customs export declaration form of the relevant country, etc.
Proof of capital use:
Receipts for purchase of goods, office interior expenses, domestic bank account deposit/withdrawal statements
For those who have completed a master's degree at a domestic university:
OASIS Training Completion Certificate (if applicable)
Proof of residence:
Lease agreement, proof of monthly rent payment, etc.
Proof of business existence:
Materials such as lease agreements, business premises, office space, and signboard photos

 

5. What is the ‘Comprehensive Startup Immigration Support System (OASIS)’?

 

According to the trade visa points system, foreigners who meet the point requirements and have no disqualification reasons are permitted to be issued a visa and change their residence status after examination. In particular, long-term residents with extensive domestic residence experience, such as those with a D-2 student visa, are actively permitted to change their residence status if they meet the requirements. However, in order to prevent abuse as a means of residence rather than for trade operations, extension of the period of stay is permitted only if there is a trade record.
